Bangkok, Thailand – On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 1:00 PM, the State Audit Office of the Kingdom of Thailand (SAO), in collaboration with the Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization), held a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding on electronic audit cooperation with five audited entities. The entities include the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Government Pension Fund, Saensuk Municipality in Chonburi Province, Sananrak Municipality in Pathum Thani Province, and Mae Hia Municipality in Chiang Mai Province. The event was witnessed by the executive committee of the State Audit Office and the executives of the participating entities at the Damri Isaranuwat Room, State Audit Office.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Mr. Monthien Chareonpol, Auditor General of Thailand, who emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing transparency and efficiency in auditing processes.

This memorandum of understanding marks an integration of cooperation between the SAO and central and local government agencies ready to join the electronic audit network of the State Audit Office. The pilot phase with 16 entities commenced on November 1, 2023. The framework for this cooperation involves electronic audit processes, including audit initiation, data and document exchange, evidence submission, audit result notification, and follow-up.

Currently, the SAO coordinates electronically with these audited entities, particularly for document exchange for electronic audits. This is in line with the State Audit Policy of the State Audit Commission and represents a significant step towards developing a transparent, fast, and efficient electronic audit system, accommodating the changes of the digital era.

This initiative is another forward step as the SAO moves to become a digital organization through the use of e-audit. The importance of electronic auditing in the digital era reflects the readiness and commitment of the SAO and the audited entities to embrace digital transformation. This effort aligns with the State Audit Policy 2023-2027, which aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness in public auditing. The integration of electronic audits not only enhances transparency and efficiency but also positions the SAO at the forefront of modern audit practices, ensuring that they can effectively respond to the evolving demands of a digital era.
